The Amazing World of Music Therapy

Many people around the world find music very therapeutic. When one is listening to music, it has the ability to affect their mood in a positive way. Music is capable of giving you different emotions which include, joy, sadness, and anger.

What exactly is music therapy? Music therapy is basically like a regular therapy session, but instead of talking you use music to express the feelings you feel deep inside. During a music therapy session, you can do anything that is music related; for example, making music, writing songs, or even just listening to music. Once you begin working with a music therapist, you will discuss the things that are making you struggle, and point out the goals you have in life. After you share your struggles and goals, your therapist will identify what kind of treatments will be suitable for you. Some treatments might include: improving your mood, enhancing your quality in life, strengthening your coping skills, encouraging emotional expression, and relieving stress and symptoms of anxiety.

During a music therapy session, you are in a calm and peaceful environment. You have the option to either have a one on one session with your therapist, or participate in a group session. Every music therapist will have their own way of doing things, so they will most likely use different styles and techniques depending on their education, interests, and strengths.

Music has the ability to make an individual heal. It aids them to clearly understand their emotions and it is also capable of changing one’s emotions. According to many scientific studies, heart rate and blood pressure readings respond to changes in volume and tempo. For instance, if anger and stress has taken over, your music therapist might suggest you listen or create music that includes soft and slow tones. This will help you let go of the anger you feel inside and make you feel calm and peaceful.

In conclusion, music therapy is very beneficial to individuals who suffer from any kind of mental health disorder. This form of therapy has the ability to reduce stress or any emotional and behavioral problems. Music therapy will aid the ones who go through anything mentally and allow them to heal with the tones and rhythms of music.
